Curating Fashion Exhibitions at the V&A

01/03/2018

Fashion exhibitions, the primary focus of The V&A ongoing public programme in the last decade, have helped the Museum raise the public profile and shift the emphasis of many museums worldwide towards artistic diversity. The V&A, aiming at museum curators engaging in fashion collections, has run professional courses worldwide and has toured the fashion exhibitions overseas.

In this lecture, by illustrating the following exhibitions: Ossie Clark (2001), New York Fashion Now (2007), Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 (2012), THE GLAMOUR OF ITALIAN FASHION (2014), and Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty (2015), the curator, Sonnet Stanfill will touch on how The V&A manages to promote the development of fashion exhibitions in various domains such as art territory, academic study, sponsorship, collections, and others.
